Manuscript, in various hands, of a collection of memoranda on antiquarian subjects. These include drafts of papers on antiquarian matters; material for lectures; an introduction intended for the Rochester Catalogue; an essay on the contents, compiler, and handwriting of the Record of Rochester called the Textus Roffensis; notes for the Rochester catalogue entitled "Prioratus Roffensis" and "Enulfus, Bishop of Rochester", along with readers' tickets signed by Black; papers and a report on the Northumberland Household Book; transcripts of and notes on manuscripts, including brief lists and chronological tables of original Papal bulls and a list of priors at the monastery of Rochester; notes and part of a catalogue of manuscripts in the Ashmolean Library; and three copies of a lecture on "Records of Chester." The collection also includes several letters between Black and Philip Bury Duncan (1772-1863) discussing antiquarian matters, Black's trips to Oxford to work on the Ashmolean catalogue, and his work with old books and papers of the Exchequer Bill Office. Other letters also address antiquarian matters, such as Black's request to see a certain manuscript; notes on a bookplate in an Ashmolean manuscript; and an essay on the state of the walls, fortifications, and ditch of the city of Worcester in 1768.
